My husband and I recently spent a week at the Lake House at Overdale. Our experience far exceeded our expectations!
From the moment we entered the Overdale property, we knew we had discovered a true natural gem!
The Lake House was gorgeous with its rugged beauty and modern conveniences! It reminded us of pictures we had seen in travel and decorating magazines! The house contained huge windows with views of the lake, ponds, and meadows! On this particular visit, there were only two of us, but with the five bedrooms, lofts, and upstairs family room sleeping arrangements, we could visualize us inviting our friends and family to enjoy this experience with us… so we planned our next two visits, one with family and another with friends!
The wildlife was amazing! From inside the comfortable chairs nestled by windows, or outside on the deck, we saw deer throughout the day, but especially during the evenings. We saw fawns and bucks cavorting through the meadow. We also viewed eagles and osprey soaring overhead as well as ducks and ducklings swimming in the ponds and lake. Our special treat, though, were the two occasions when a moose leisurely roamed the meadow right next to the Lake House.
One of the true highlights of our stay, though, was meeting and getting to know the caretakers Seth, Maribeth, their three adorable boys, and their dog Copper. They were incredibly friendly and accommodating by checking in on us every day to see if we needed anything or suggesting activities that might enhance our stay. Although we just met them, we felt as if they were longtime family friends!
In conclusion, our stay at Overdale was a once-in-a-lifetime experience (well maybe a three-in-a-lifetime experience), and we DEFINITELY plan to return!
We were two senior couples who stayed 3 nights.
The guest lodge was like new, well stocked with necessary provisions (beyond the basics one might expect to bring for such a stay) and very roomy with wonderful views. The surrounding property (over 270 acres) is literally idyllic in its views from both the expansive windows and gorgeous porch of the guest lodge and from throughout the property. Everything was well maintained.
The caretakers and their family who live on the property were not only hospitable but bent over backward to enlighten us as to activities and wildlife in the area. They and their three children and dog were a delight to be around. They added so much to the picturesque ambiance of the location and scenery.
The nearby tavern (for food and beverage) and mercantile provided local color and added to a wonderful change of pace that the lodge and its surroundings represent from city life.
The proprietor’s photographs and description on the website do accurately reflect the facilities and surroundings.
We will come back for more hiking and outlying car travel. Its close to the Canadian border and not far from towns with modern supermarkets and other amenities to make the stay more enjoyable and to provision the lodge stay. Yet the Overdale is the ultimate experience in communing with nature and the caretakers incredibly restore one's faith in the goodness of America. We can highly recommend the Overdale experience.
If you've been in search of a getaway place that offers peace and tranquility look no further...Overdale Lodge in Yaak, MT is your "go to" place.
We recently spent the most glorious week plus on vacation there and mere words cannot do it justice. The two lodges are both unbelievable in their own unique ways, nestled among tall trees, bordered by three small man-made lakes and national forests as far as the eye can see making this the perfect setting. Ideal for bird watching, fishing, hiking, canoeing or just relaxing. You can do it all, or nothing at all.
Grounds are well maintained by friendly, accommodating caretakers who are only too happy to please. An adorable young couple!
Wildlife! Wildlife!! Wildlife!!! We counted 62 deer one evening as we relaxed on our veranda and planned our next day’s activities.
Thank you, owners, for a marvelous time we will never forget. Plan to return one day soon and bring our "skeptical" family and friends...they won't be disappointed, we surely were not.
Every once in a while I come across something I need to share. Overdale Lodge is such a location. Located in Northwestern Montana, it is one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited. Having lived in Northern California in the Mt. Lassen, Mt. Shasta area I never thought any other place would impress me as much. Boy, was I ever wrong. Overdale Lodge and the surrounding areas are some of the most beautiful mountains and valleys I have ever seen. Seeing is believing.
The lodges are large, beautiful log structures that fit in perfectly with the surrounding terrain. The view from the spacious main room and large deck overlooking Obermayer Lake and meadow take my breath away. Geese, duck, bald eagles and other fowl are in abundance. In the evening you can count from 30 to 100+ deer feeding in the meadow and the front yard.
Surrounding the property is 500,000 acres of National Forest that offer a variety of hunting and fishing. Guided fishing float trips are available on the beautiful, nearby Kootenai River. If hunting and fishing is not your thing, a quiet, peaceful day of relaxation is always a good option.
This is truly an outdoorsman’s paradise.
I had the amazing opportunity to take my family, including three teenagers and my parents to the Overdale Lodge for the best week imaginable. We arrived on a beautiful day, greeted by deer, elk, and Canadian geese, as we entered the property.
The log home was luxurious, practical, and well stocked, with all the amenities we needed for the week. The layout, with its open kitchen, large family room, and perfectly placed picture windows, invited ample opportunity for family bonding. Three teenagers were kept happy and occupied with a closet full of games, a pool table, and a stocked fishing supply room! After a jam-packed day of hiking, fishing, and exploring Montana, coming back to Overdale Lodge, felt like coming home.
Spending time at Overdale Lodge is like hitting the "pause" button in a chaotic, busy life. The memories made are priceless and my whole family is excited to return to our newly discovered paradise!
